Q. Before getting into details, please tell us about yourself.
My name is Shanu Goyal. I belong to Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. I studied in DAV Public School and am currently pursuing B.Sc. (IT) from Graphic Era University, Dehradun. I love singing and have a profound interest in science and technology.
Q. Tell us about the ERP software that you have developed.
In general, ERP or Enterprise Resource Planning refers to a type of software that organizations use to manage day-to-day business activities. It is a software that helps plan, budget, predict, and report on an organization’s financial results. An important ERP function is to provide a central platform for accessing a wide range of data.
Instead of several separate databases with many records, ERP systems bring an organized structure of data so that users can create, store, and use the same data derived through common processes. I built the ERP software which stores all details of college/school students for enhanced data access, processing, and parent – teacher communication. I developed it with the help of java script and the new PHP framework Laravel.
Q. Apart from you, who else was in your team?
One of my close friends, Diputi Singla, helped me with this project. She studies in Ryan College for Higher Education, Hanumangarh, Rajasthan.
Q. What are the unique features of this software and how it is different from others?
This software provides a platform for including wide range of information about the students at one location. The unique feature of this application is its video conferencing option that enables parents to easily communicate with teachers or get in touch with each other.
Q. When did you start working on it and how did you get the idea?
I have been observing that many students do not inform their parents about tests and exams. They do not even tell them about the fee. Sometimes they also misuse the fee for various other purposes. So, I came up with this idea to create such an application for the parents to be able to access the information about the fee, exam dates etc.
Q. Tell us about your company.
I have registered my own company with the name ‘Iyaha Web’. Based on the ERP system, we are creating a new project in the field of accountancy like Tally. In comparison to Tally, we are striving to make it more user friendly to access accounts and income tax from a single entry.
Q. What is the utility of this software for school and colleges?
As I said, this is a platform where students, teachers and parents can access details and information at one central location. This is a time and space saving software. It benefits the teachers and parents by helping them connect through video conferencing. Moreover, its server is very secure and safe.
Q. What challenges did you face while developing it?
ERP systems can be used in any field such as finance, human resources, engineering, marketing, operations etc. My idea was to create this system in the field of education, which is a unique thing for schools and colleges. The main challenge was to keep the system secure for every user as it consists of a large chunk of information.
Q. Where do you see yourself in next 10 years?
I envision myself owning a huge company and creating software which can help India grow as a technology-driven nation. Besides it, I also want to see myself living a luxurious life and become an influential tech-tycoon.
Q. Tell us about the role of your college and teachers in your journey.
A teacher’s role is always very crucial in making the future of the students. My teachers always encouraged and supported me to pursue my dream. They also gave proper time and attention.
Q. Who is your role model or source of inspiration?
My parents are my role models. They support me in every walk of life, and I hope to make them proud. My faculty members are my source of inspiration. Last, but not the least, I am thankful to my friend who keeps me motivated and optimistic. She backs me in every situation.
Q. What are your hobbies?
My hobby includes singing and learning new things, specially about technology.
