Established in the year 1935, former Advocate-General of Bengal and a member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council of Lord Irwin, Satish Ranjan Das founded ‘The Doon School, Dehradun’. He was deliberated to make an Indian public school based on British Public School system with Indian ambitions and cultural values. It is spread across 72 acres of land as a single campus.
The Doon School is a boys only boarding school and home to around 500 students aged between 12 to 18.
The Doon School, Dehradun Uttarakhand holds a competitive entrance examination followed by a personal interview of the shortlisted students with the Headmaster for admissions. Here staff accommodation facility is also available.
The Doon School is affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, Delhi (CISCE). It is also affiliated to Geneva-based International Baccalaureate Organization and offers International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
In 10th standard, the students have to take the Cambridge IGCSE examination while for Class 11th and 12th students have an option to choose between the Indian School Certificate (ISC) or International Baccalaureate.
The academic year in The Doon School, Dehradun is divided into two terms as follows:
Spring Term from February 1st to May 31st
Autumn Term from August 1st to November 30th
- The school follows a five and a half day week schedule.
- The average strength of a class is 20 students.
- 10:1 is the student-teacher overall ratio.
- As additional subjects, art, music, carpentry, Sanskrit, design and technology are compulsorily taught.
- Students can also opt for German or French as additional language to learn.
- The school admits boys in January and April every year.
- In January students are admitted into VIII standard.
- In April month, students are admitted into VII standard.
- The boys must be above 11 years age to apply for admission in a two-step process.
- An entrance examination is held every year in the month of November in Dehradun and major metropolitan cities of India.
The entrance test in The Doon School consists of four papers:
- General Knowledge
Hindi is a compulsory language to study till X standard. Shortlisted candidates are further called for personal interview which usually happens in the month of December.
The Doon School is divided into 5 leading houses and 2 holding houses. The newcomers (first year students) are placed under the personal care of housemaster in the 2 holding houses named the Foot House and the Martyn House. The 5 leading houses are named as Hyderabad (Navy Blue), Jaipur (Green), Kashmir (Yellow), Tata (Red) and Oberoi (Sky Blue).
The school is well equipped labs and extra-curricular activities.

The current scholarship programme offered by The Doon School is based upon the candidate’s performance at the entrance examination and subsequent interview.

Thus, the school only processes applications for scholarships once the candidate has been successful in the entrance examination and interview.

PROCESS OF APPLICATION FOR FINALNCIAL AID
The Doon School has a scholarship committee which meets to decide on how financial aid awards are allocated. The Headmaster sits on this committee.
Prospective parents, (whose sons have successfully passed the entrance examination and interview and are offered a place) are required to complete a form which is available from the Head of Admissions.
The form requires parents to submit a detailed report of their financial affairs, including joint family income, in order for the school to ascertain whether they are justified in providing financial support to the parents.
The form is comprehensive and has been designed to ensure that the school is able to allocate its resources wisely and effectively, so that they reach the neediest parents and does not provide financial support in the form of discounts to parents who do not need it.
Financial Aid, ranges from limited financial support to awards worth 100%+ to support parents who would not be able to afford to send their son to The Doon School.
The system also applies to scholars whose parents require further financial support in order to enable their son to attend The Doon School.

You may register your son any time after his birth. Please note that the registration fees are current fees.
Registration is completed on:
- submission of a certified copy of the boy’s birth certificate and
- payment of the Registration fee, by Demand Draft according to the schedule given below:

LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY
The Doon School, Dehradun is easily accessible by road, rail and air. The school is situated in the cantonment area of the city and has multiple trains from Delhi and other large and small cities in India.
The station is about 15 mins drive away. The school is easily accessible by air with multiple flights daily and all day from Delhi with many different airlines and a direct flight from Kerala and Bangalore. It has never been easier to travel to The Doon School.
